Court: Port Chester Man Promised Work to Day Laborer, Robbed Him Instead

Selected cases from Monday's session at the Port Chester courthouse.

A Port Chester man held up a day laborer by bringing him to an empty house and holding a sharpened piece of wood to his throat, authorities say.

Ivan Valdovinos, 23, was in Port Chester village court Monday, facing a felony robbery charge for taking $300 in cash and a cell phone from his victim.

Valdovinos approached the 19-year-old day laborer in the early morning hours of June 8, telling the victim he wanted to hire extra help to clean a home on Palace Place. When they arrived, Valdovinos brought the victim to the third floor of the vacant house and robbed him, according to details from police and Monday's court hearing.

Worried the day laborer would follow him, Valdovinos said he'd kill the victim if he tried to leave. The victim eventually spotted a passerby and yelled for help. The passerby grabbed a ladder and the victim was able to climb down and find a phone to call police.

Officers spotted Valdovinos at 6:30 p.m. on the same day and arrested him in a rooming house at 30 Broad Street.

The case was adjourned until July 19.
