Supporters Rally for Pavone Ahead of Meeting with Bishop

Supporters of Port Chester native the Rev. Frank Pavone are rallying to his support after Pavone was suspended from duty outside of his home diocese.

Supporters are rallying on behalf of an embattled priest and pro-life leader ahead of a crucial church meeting tomorrow. The Rev. Frank Pavone, a Port Chester-born priest and leader of Priests for Life, has been in limbo for more than a month after he was recalled to his home diocese amid questions about the finances of his charity. Pavone will meet tomorrow with Bishop Patrick Zurek, the diocesan leader who recalled Pavone to his home diocese of Amirillo, TX, after publicly raising questions about the finances of Priests for Life. Priests for Life was founded in Port Chester in 1993. Over two decades, the pro-life group has grown into a nationally-recognized non-profit with revenues of about $10 million a year. Pavone himself has become a…

Father Pavone to Meet With TX Bishop Next Week

A month ago, the Rev. Frank Pavone was recalled by his bishop and asked to spend time in prayer and reflection. The Port Chester-born priest, who runs non-profit giant Priests for Life, faces questions about financial management of the charity.

The Rev. Frank Pavone, an embattled Port Chester-born priest who was recalled to his diocese last month, will meet with the bishop who raised financial questions about Pavone's non-profit. Pavone will meet with the bishop of Amarillo, Texas, on Oct. 13, following several weeks of speculation from observers and statements from both men regarding Priest for Life's finances and Pavone's status as a priest. With the late Cardinal John O'Connor's blessing, Pavone founded Priests for Life in Port Chester in 1993, building the small charity into a national organization that today receives about $10 million in charitable donations annually. Pavone is familiar nationally for his charity work and for his many media appearances -- in addition to …

Tara Shanes-Hernandez hopes for a repeat performance this Sunday, April 10, when she gears up to organize the Second Annual Westchester Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk as a tribute to her mother and life-long advocate of helping others, Gigi Shanes-Hernandez. “I’ve just continued her drive and devotion to helping others,” she said of her mother’s legacy. More than 500 people expected to come together for the walk this weekend at Rye Town Park and Playland Park in Rye.   Shanes-Hernandez said she hopes the event will not only raise money, but help inform people about the little-understood cancer. “It can …

Comedy On the Court: Port Chester Faculty Trade Trick Shots with Wizards

Teachers and staff play the Harlem Wizards in a friendly fundraiser for the Port Chester Middle School PTA.

Principal Lou "Coney Island' Cuglietto got more than he bargained for last night at the PC Pride vs. Harlem Wizards basketball game when he went to shoot a foul shot and was greeted with a side-splitting attempt to rattle his game. Cuglietto was lining up his shot when two Wizards players decided to play tug-of-war with the waistband of his basketball shorts, a move you won't see in the NBA. Port Chester faculty took the court Thursday against the Harlem Wizards for a night of alley-oops, trick balls and theatrical displays, all for a good cause – the game was a fund-raiser for the Port Chester Middle School PTA. For $10 a ticket, kids could have a chuckle watching 15 of their teachers, coaches and principals drive to the basket and fine-…

How's your science teacher's jump shot? Port Chester kids will get to see their teachers, coaches and administrators in action Thursday as they take the court bearing the name "PC Pride" for a friendly basketball contest with the Harlem Wizards. Like the Harlem Globetrotters, the Wizards play a style of basketball that combines theatric athleticism with comedy – basketballs revolving on fingertips, jaw-dropping trick shots and dribbling artistry. The team was formed in 1962 and travels the country for school programs, special events and charity fund-raisers. PC Pride will take the court against the Wizards at 7 p.m. at the Port Chester Middle School gym. Teachers and staff have even taken on hoops-themed nicknames for the game – Tsunami …
