Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel traces its routes back to the end of the 19th century, when a small group of…More observant Jews gathered in East Port Chester (modern day Greenwich) for Rosh Hashana.
The congregation's current building was designed in 1953 by architect Phillip Johnson, who wanted "to replicate the tents our ancestors worshipped in after the Jewish people left Egypt." The interior of the synagogue features stained glass windows, artwork and customized pieces from noted artists and architects the world over -- including Israel, Belgium and the U.S.
Activities within the congregation include a youth group, adult groups for men and women, religious school and adult education, and services for seniors. Weekly services include regular Sabbath observances and Friday night candle-lighting ceremonies.
