Letter To The Editor: Port Chester School Board Member Thanks Voters For Support

Jim Dreves re-elected in Tuesday's voting.

To The Editor: Thank you to all the residents of the Port Chester-Rye UFSD who came out to support our 2012-2013 budget. It passed by a nearly 2-1 margin, and proves, once again, that our residents support quality education as long as the Board gives proper consideration to the ability of the taxpayers to fund District needs.   I also appreciate and am humbled by the overwhelming support I received for another term on your Board. It means a great deal to me to know that what I have accomplished over the past 21 years is appreciated by so many District residents. Thank you!    Now, however, the hard work begins! The next several years (under the Tax Cap) will be VERY difficult. My goal is to do everything possible to preserve our quality …

Congratulations. I, too, hope your re-election brings a new understanding of the reality that is now. And I hope that the teacher negotiations will reflect that new reality as well. Mandate relief is a must ... and I hope all school boards from across the state make it clear to those in Albany that what has existed is no longer viable if the institution of public education is to survive in the …   more ›

Johnson. “Our citizens listened to us, the hard work paid off and people came out and voted. That’s the main thing.” School Board President Blanca Lopez, incumbent  Jim Dreves and challenger Tom Corbia, a retired teacher who spent 40 years in the district, were up for the two trustee spots. Dreves was re-elected and Corbia defeated Lopez, 910-814. “I look …

Yes, the local teacher's union should get some of the blame but the biggest culprit and biggest threat is coming from the state union. They are the one's controlling the strings attached to state politicians. They have systematically created a system that is out of touch with the realities of our economic times. They have created a state wide school system that has increased the mission of our …   more ›

Dreves Looking For Eighth Term On Port Chester School Board

He has been on the board 21 years.

Jim Dreves has been on the Port Chester School Board for the past 21 years, and on Tuesday is seeking re-election for another three-year term. “The first 18 years of my tenure on the board were good years, they were building years, they were productive,” he said. “The last three years were stagnant. The mandates were killing us. And then the tax cap gets put it in and I see the work I put in fall apart. With my experience and background living in Port Chester for 44 years, ultimately what I’ve learned -- having been president multiple times, passing bonds, having bonds fail -- is more important than it’s ever been before and I don’t want to see us take a step backwards.” Dreves is one of three candidates vying for two open sports on the …
