Great, even more hippie debauchery to avoid. Jerry Garcia was a miserable drug addict, and he isRead More adulated by these directionless lost souls. These people clearly do not have any jobs. How do they get by? Do they really make enough money selling tie dye shirts and grilled cheese? Mort Godfrey

I agree 100%. I was there as well last Sat. and brought my high school age daughter. Most of herRead More White Plains High School friends were there with their families. It was a great day for everyone.

Rob Astorino claims "Families don't go to Playland anymore." But when I was there on aRead More rainy cold opening day on Saturday, I was SURROUNDED by nothing but families - even HIS family was there. They all came out in the lousy weather to have a good time. Parents and kids and grandparents and every combo of aunt uncle cousin etc. you could imagine, all different colors, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, many different languages being spoken, everyone happy to see the place open again, getting along, smiling, having a good time. I think I was about the only person there who *wasn't* with kids. Families families families. But...don't you know...families don't go to Playland anymore? People love Playland. They want to see it brought back to life as a vibrant amusement park, not dismantled for a grassy field and indoor sports facility.

You must be the only person in Westchester that doesn't have wonderful feelings/memories aboutRead More Playland. It is so sad.

Looking forward to enjoying some good music and craft beers at Garcia's!

Garcia's? the name is a perfect fit for PC.

Smellypants, I give you a good ribbing here and there, but you should suggest to the owner that theyRead More present some music of the type you are describing. Their programming has been fairly eclectic so they might be willing to give it a shot. Otherwise I hope you have a chance to visit the entertainment complex in Branson, MO - there's a whole lot to do there and the entertainment definitely fits the definition of "good clean". PS I would be remiss if I didn't point out however that Captain and Tenille shows these days are notorious for rampant nudity, gang violence, and open heroin use (*** kidding!!! ***)
PC Proud April 29, 2013 at 01:12 am
You forgot the Cowsills
smellypants April 29, 2013 at 12:06 am
No Craig, I wouldn't complain if they had bands like Captain and Tenille, the Osmonds or the BackRead More Street Boys - good, clean music.

We'll hold a free show Wed. night w/ Steve Liesman and the Mooncussers www.facebook.com/steveandthemooncussers in the small bar at the Copa beginning around 11. went to the 4/23 show, drove up from nyc - also saw Dylan on opening night and Prine a week and aRead More half ago. Performance was okay. Stopped in local liquor store to buy some booze I could not find in the city. Parked just on other side of the tracks sine the MTA lot was closed and for the first time saw what looked like the "nice" side of the village. Now I know some places I will definitely come back to for dinner before my next show. Cops outside the venue patrolling Shakedown St were very pleasant and good at keeping the peace. Venue is very well run and I am very glad to see it being successful. I will be back and spending more time and $ in your town - Thanks!

I think the business is great for PC and our growing community, however the traffic and crowds areRead More ridiculous, hopefully the PCPD will be able to better handle the traffic and crowds for the next show.

Been to four shows so far and one more lined up. It's been a great thing having Furthur come toRead More town. Looking forward to many more great shows at the Cap in the future.

Address correction- 141 South Main St. Upscale Cutz, is proud to be here in Potchester, New York.Read More This is #6 for upscale. There is currently 5 other location throughout the state of CT. Waterbury, Bristol, Torrington, Southington, and Newington. "The Home of the $5 Hair Cut" Established in 2003. We would love to bring the $5 Mondays here as well but the overhead in town is a bit high so $8 will have to do. Thanks to Upscale of CT. We was able to donate the jumping caste for our small youth at last years Unity Day and those memorable t- shirts. Again we thank you for helping us help others! ( PC- People's Choice)

Kim, Elizabeth and Nicole, Thank you for one of the best take downs ever. Couldn't have said itRead More better myself.

In response to Frank Vecchione, Animal Rights is one of the most important issues our country &Read More our world faces. The EU banned seal fur trade, yet still, every year, the Canadian Government permits neanderthal-like men to crush cute Baby Seal Pup skulls with baseball bats. Even though it's not profitable, it happens. In South Dakota, the law can't charge you with a felony for being cruel & malicious to your pets. The pig "processors" pull the pig's teeth out with pliers weeks before the slaughter so they can't chew through the wire, Egg-laying hens are starved to manipulate the laying cycle & their beaks are broken off. In China, they skin animals alive. Some people may not think those things are important because it's not happening to them, but it IS happening to a sentient, conscious, mind-of-a-5-year-old-human being.with emotions and pain sensory & it's important that that's discussed, as unpleasant as it is. People talk about how graphic PETA is, but how is that different than the nightly news showing images of war and/or genocide?
Nicole Scarmeas May 9, 2013 at 03:34 pm
Kim, I'd like to say thank you to you for volunteering your time at the New Rochelle Humane Society.Read More They very much do important work there, and it must be incredibly hard to work there, seeing all those innocent, precious animals every day that just need a loving home. It must be so tempting to bring all the animals home. Thank you to Michael Woyton & Patch for consistently reporting on these animals. They need our awareness & help. I can't believe that people still move without their pets, or get rid of them because someone is "allergic."

When building permits are given in MOST .communities there are regularly scheduled inspections byRead More the building inspector. If these were performed there should never be a surprise at what the scope of work that was done at the building on N Main and Adee St. Where was the building dept during the ongoing work so that the scope of the minimal demolition could be monitored? How could this happen? It happens because there is no Harry Truman here and the buck keeps getting passed around. The building dept is no better now than it was under the previous administrations. The old adage is appropriate here: "Fish starts to stink at the head!" Same old same old!
Bea Conetta May 1, 2013 at 10:24 pm
You are absolutely right. I did say at a BOT meeting that time and effort is being diverted fromRead More the number one problem in PC. They should concentrate almost completely on overcrowding and illegal apartments and stop making life miserable for the good taxpayers of PC. It seems that for the incompetence of the past building departments law abiding residents are being made to suffer very unfairly. This smacks of something being done that is illegal. It should be looked into to see what can be done to rectify it. It is as bad or worse than the revaluation that Rye Town did that made our taxes skyrocket. Enough please!!!!
Robski48 May 1, 2013 at 09:34 pm
I will say it once again. This is the stuff that falls through the cracks when you are screwing theRead More law abiding citizens who are filing for amnesty. The Village needs to prioritize what they need to attack and the illegal building and overcrowding is a number 1. Why don't they see it. Leave the law abiding citizens alone!!!
Linda Turturino May 2, 2013 at 12:51 pm
Thank you Robski48 could not have said it better myself - this was a large property with manyRead More violations and many fines ...and again no one watching the "store" at least once a month a BLD Dept employee should have stopped by for an update on work being done onm

Was there every any followup on this situation from two years ago - when the same/adjacent buildingRead More had dozens of violations discovered after a fire including many single rooms that were being used as apartments? The owner I seem to recall was the proprietor of "Crave" at the corner of Adee Street and Main Street? I would like to know if the owner ever paid anything for this in fines - or if it was a case that was dropped because of who you are/who you know - and if this relates to the current problems too. Appreciate any help! http://portchester.patch.com/articles/inspectors-complete-preliminary-review-after-main-st-fire-plan-to-re-visit-site

So that's a denial by you right? I'm not sure we can trust you on this one smelly. Your screen nameRead More and Mr. Floatie have what is called in some circles "synergy." Come clean. Clear the air. But smelly, did you see what the over 1.2 million weekend readers of Newsday saw a few days ago? A story with a photo galley about Hen Island big enough to choke a festering horse trough full of skeeters. Now the network affiliate TV stations are circling and building story files. Plunkett's DOH crew is likely calling in the crisis team. Look here - subscription required - "There is no central sewage system or electricity, other than at the handful of houses that have their own generators or solar power. There are no roads or telephones, either. People get their water from cisterns that collect rain from rooftops. And that's how the people of Hen Island like it. Well, not everyone." http://www.newsday.com/search/hen-island-residents-feud-over-sanitation-modernization-1.5152586
smellypants May 1, 2013 at 07:06 pm
Who was Mr. Floatie then. Any guesses?
tedc May 1, 2013 at 06:08 pm
Nah smelly, I was not. Actually I thought is was you.

Rick Buzin, if you are willing to trade the Megarinks for traffic lights and other improvements atRead More the intersection of King Street and the Hutch, then I would urge you to communicate that to your Rye Brook Together compatriots who are sitting on the Rye Brook Board -- and be sure in the process they pass the word to First Selectman Peter Tesei in Greenwich. The Megarink people and their attorney Bill Null would probably object, but they deserve this fate after meeting secretely with Mayor Feinstein (who went public with it, thank you Ms. Feinstein!) to subvert the public approvals process (see the video of the November Rye Brook Board Meeting everyone, please!!).
rick buzin May 18, 2013 at 12:12 pm
Matt.....don't even get me started with that intersection. It is a nightmare that our Ct. friendsRead More (who also happen to be adamantly opposed to the ice hockey rinks) have refused to help address. NY DOT informed Rye Brook that they would be on board to revamping this outdated and dangerous intersection years ago; but Conn DOT and our neighbors have been "dead-set" against it. It seems to me to be quite disingenuous of these same people to use "public safety" as a rationale for NOT building these rinks. Your experience does not surprise me in the least. Maybe we can trade off the rinks for a HUGE gain in public safety at the Merritt/ King Street exit?
bonkerspapa May 10, 2013 at 12:44 am
Ms. Lane, you must have a psychic ball or maybe are just better at seeing the obvious than theRead More Village planners and Dept of Transportation. There was an accident yesterday afternoon when it was daylight and sunny at the off ramp of the Merritt onto King St. I pulled over and watched someone be taken away on a stretcher. The amount of traffic this 2 car fender bender was creating was unbelievable. The Rye Brook officer was getting annoyed. While directing traffic he was telling the cars to keep moving and there was nothing to see yet everyone had to slow down to get onto the Merritt. I mean slow down more than usual for that spot of cars that are coming and going.

Looking forward to another great season!! Controversies aside, this stadium is far and away one ofRead More the best things to happen in Rockland in a long, long time.
