Port Chester, Rye Residents Join County-Wide 9/11 Volunteer Effort

Rye and Port Chester residents were among the more than 800 people who volunteered during the Westchseter County and The Volunteer Center of United Way’s “9/11: Serve & Remember” event from Sept. 3-11 this year. Volunteers sorted more than 12 boxes of girls clothing for Family Services of Westchester's The Sharing Shelf in Port Chester.  People from Westchetser, Putnam, Rockland and Ulster also helped prepare medical supplies for shipment overseas, donated pints of blood, wrote hundreds of letters to soldiers, collected food items from HOPE Community Services’ food pantry, donated sporting goods and did much more.

The Clay Arts Center in Port Chester and Rye’s Nature Center also participated in the week of volunteerism. The photo above shows Rye’s Barbara Brown and Port Chester’s Ada Alicia with many others from around the county, sorting clothes at The Sharing Shelf.
