Summer Theater: Couples Invited to Renew Wedding Vows Live On Stage

Lawnchair Theatre Company of Port Chester Council for the Arts puts on Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" in August.

Love will be in the air — and on stage — this summer in Port Chester.

Married couples of all ages are invited to renew their wedding vows in front of friends, family and a live theater audience as part of the Lawnchair Theatre Company’s August productions of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.”   

Couples can sign up to be included in any of the five outdoor evening productions, set for Friday, Aug. 3, at Rye Town Park; Saturday, Aug. 4 at Pine Ridge Park in Rye Brook; Thursday, Aug. 9 at Lyon Park in Port Chester; Friday, Aug. 10 at Crawford Park in Port Chester, and ending Saturday, Aug. 11 at Lyon Park.

All shows begin at 5:45 p.m. Admission is free with a suggested donation.  

“Much Ado About Nothing” is a fast-paced romantic comedy of misunderstandings, subterfuge, rumors, mind games and an eventual happy ending featuring a double wedding celebration.  At intermission, director will invite participating couples to join him and Rye Town officiants including , Rye Brook Mayor Joan Feinstein and onto the set for a picturesque group vow renewal ceremony inspired by the participating couples, whose names and years married will each be announced.

“We’ll supply the officiant, costumed revelers, a romantic setting, music, flowers for the bride and wedding cake for the crowd," said Green. "The  couples supply the love, inspiration and true romance.”  

Couples can sign up for their selected date and location at www.LawnChairTheatre.org or via LawnChair Theatre on Facebook, which will post updates leading to each event.   

If it rains, the events may be moved inside or postponed.
