Rocklander Boulders Losing Streak Hits 13 Games

Jackals sweep Boulders at Provident Bank Park.

Nick Giarraputo had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs and Steve Fox allowed only one earned run over seven innings as the New Jersey Jackals beat the , 8-1, to complete the sweep Sunday evening at Provident Bank Park in Pomona.

Rockland has now lost 13 consecutive games.

Nick Salotti's second inning RBI single started the scoring as New Jersey took a 1-0 lead. The Jackals added two more in the third on a two-run double by Francisco Caraballo. Rockland's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth on a Phil Cuadrado solo home run, which cut the deficit to 3-1.

Gustavo Chacin (3-5) took the loss for the Boulders, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out four, over six innings. Eric Federico came on in relief of Chacin and New Jersey blew open the game against the Boulders' bullpen. The Jackals hit three homers against Federico in the seventh, including a three-run blast off the bat of Giarraputo, which made the score 8-1.

Keith Brachold went 0-3 with a walk and remains four homers shy of Eddie Lantigua's single season home run record of 31, which was set back in 2005. Brachold needs five homers in seven games to break the mark.

Rockland looks to snap its losing streak today at 5 p.m. at Worcester as part of a double-header.

The Boulders return home next weekend, Sept. 1-3, as Rockland finishes the season against the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
