Port Chester Boy Places 2nd in World Tae Kwon Do Competition

The Mayor of Port Chester named Aug. 5, 2013 Gabriel Erik Escobar Day.

Mayor Neil Pagano presented Port Chester Middle School student Gabriel Erik Escobar with a proclamation for winning second place in the 7th World Culture Taekwondo Competition Expo in Tokyo on July 17, 2013 at last week’s Board of Trustees meeting.

Escober has practiced tae kwon do at Grand Master Byung Min Kim’s Tae Kwon Do school in Port Chester since he was five years old and regularly competes in tournaments, participates in demonstrations and works as an instructor. He is also an honor roll student, a saxophone player in the band and a boy scout. He is the youngest, third degree black belt at his B.M. Kim’s.

“His outstanding drive, determination and high level of achievement makes him a positive role model in our community motivating and inspiring other young people to develop and utilize their full potential, we applaud him,” Pagano said.

Escobar thanked his family, instructors and masters for support that helped him with his impressive achievement.
