Gather the family and pack some blankets and chairs for a picnic on the lawn – the Lippolis Electric Movie under the Stars showing of the animated family film The Smurfs (PG, 2011) will take place Friday, Aug. 3, rain or shine, at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. The movie begins at sundown.

“I want to thank WFAS and our Parks Department for putting this event together, especially in a time when budgets continue to be very tight,” County Executive Robert P. Astorino said. “By joining forces with WFAS and its partners, we are pleased to once again invite county residents to come out to Kensico and enjoy a movie and a picnic. This is a great example the public and private sectors joining forces to benefits our residents.”

Admission and parking are free. Moviegoers should bring blankets, folding chairs and a picnic. Refreshments and popcorn will also be for sale.

The movie, which will be shown in standard format (not 3-D), tells the story of the tiny blue Smurfs who get chased out of their magical world and into New York City by the evil wizard Gargamel.

The Lippolis Electric Movie under the Stars is presented by Westchester County Parks and sponsored by Cumulus Westchester, radio stations 103.9 WFAS-FM, The Kicks 105.5 and 1230 WFAS, Lippolis Electric, JPMcHale Pest Management Inc., Envirocare, National Lawn Sprinklers Inc. and Friends of Westchester County Parks, Inc.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
