5th Annual Port Chester Health Fair

In celebration of National Community Health Center Week, Open Door Family Medical Centers will host the 5th Annual Port Chester Community Health Fair Saturday, August 6th at Open Door’s Port Chester location on 5 Grace Church Street. The annual family event includes free health screenings provided by English and Spanish-speaking health care providers, community vendors, a tour of Open Door’s new Wellness Center, children’s activities and giveaways, raffles and prizes. Open Door will honor Joe Durney, Director of Health, Physical Education & Technology of Port Chester Schools and Co-Chair of the Port Chester Community Cares Coalition and Westchester County Legislator Martin Rogowsky at 12:30pm. The Port Chester Community Health Fair is free and runs from 10am-3pm. For more information about the Port Chester Community Health Fair, call Grace Beltran at (914) 502-1339.

Throughout the day, Open Door health professionals will provide education and screenings on a variety of health concerns including skin safety, nutrition, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, HIV, podiatry, optometry, women’s health and more. Purdy Avenue will be closed for the duration of the event allowing for outdoor physical activities including Zumba, Tai Chi, yoga and dancing. Children will enjoy healthy activities including a Bouncy Castle, arts and crafts tables, a reading corner, and outdoor exercises.  All of this is made possible by the Port Chester Health Network, comprised of a number of local organizations with a vested interest in the health of the community.  These organizations include Open Door, Hudson Health Plan, Carver Center, Council of Community Services, Port Chester Cares Community Coalition, Greenwich Hospital, White Plains Hospital, Forever Families through Adoption, etc.   The organizations strive to educate the community about preventive health care, health literacy, physical activity and nutrition for the entire family.

Open Door joins over 70 community health centers in New York State providing high quality, affordable and accessible health care in celebrating National Community Health Center Week August 7-13. The Port Chester Community Health Fair encompasses this year’s theme, “Celebrating America’s Health Centers: Serving Locally, Leading Nationally.” “Celebrating America’s Health Centers” is designed to increase awareness of the importance of primary and preventive care for America’s most vulnerable as well as the positive impact that Health Care Reform brings to community health centers.
