The Westchester Baseball Academy won the Blue Chip Prospect Great American Classic Tournament at Stony Brook University in Long Island.

The Academy won its first three games of the tournament to get to the quarterfinals, where Andrew Waite, of Rye Country Day School, struck out seven batters in five innings to lead the team to a 9-0 victory.

Four pitchers -- Brian Lobel and Michael Forgione and Max Bruckner, all from Harrison and Rye’s Mitchell Leeds, who earned the win -- combined to lead Westchester to a 5-4 win in the semifinals against the Long Island Titans.

The finals brought on a matchup against the New York Nationals, the returning tournament winner. Max Bruckner started and earned the win for Westchester, while Alex Gendleman, a Re Country Day School graduate, belted a three-run homer in the 7-1 victory.

The team is made up of baseball players from various schools in Westchester. This is the second year they’ve fielded a team. Last year, Westchester won 40 of its 44 games, earning a spot in the Continental Amateur Baseball Association World Series in Charleston, S.C. The tournament starts July 20th.
