Red Dragons sweep to victory

Senior goalie Katie Double of Farmington stopped 30 shots as the Cortland women’s ice hockey team completed a two-game weekend sweep of Chatham University of Pittsburgh with a 2-0 victory on Saturday in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena.

The Red Dragons had blanked Chatham on Friday, 2-0.

Junior Erika Osborne, a graduate of The Harvey School in Katonah, led the Red Dragons (4-11-1, 2-9-1 ECAC West) with a goal and an assist. Junior Brianna Rossi of Stormville, who played for the Brewster Bulldogs, added a goal.

Freshman goalie Megan Buchanan of Ottawa had 35 saves for the Cougars (0-12, 0-12 ECAC West) in her second start.

Senior forward Pam Murphy of Rye has played in 16 games for Cortland while freshman forward Jessica Troilo of New Rochelle has appeared in 13 games, and junior forward Jordan Baum of Suffern has participated in 11 games.

The Red Dragons hit the road for back-to-back games against Plattsburgh on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5. Both start times are 3 p.m.

The Cardinal will be a very tough test for Cortland, as they are undefeated in the conference, with an overall mark of 13-3-2.

 

Dolphins hope to rebound

The College of Mount Saint Vincent women’s basketball team fell to 0-3 in overtime games after a tough 71-65 road loss at NYU-Poly in Brooklyn.

Amy Delva of Nanuet had six points, three rebounds and a pair of steals in 20 minutes for the Dolphins (5-12,1-7 Skyline Conference), who host non-conference foe Centenary (NJ) College tonight (Jan. 30). Tip-off is 6 p.m. The visitors are 13-6 on the season.

 

Henry a steal for Dolphins

Sophomore forward Kevin Henry of Yonkers posted a career- and game-high five steals as the College of Mount Saint Vincent men’s basketball team picked up its third straight win and its fourth in the last five games with a 63-51 road victory over NYU-POLY in Brooklyn.

The Mount Saint Vincent defense, sparked by Henry, had a strong day and forced 30 turnovers leading to a important 36-6 advantage in points off miscues. The Dolphins’ bench also continued to play a strong role, scoring 38 points.

Mount Saint Vincent, now 7-11 overall and 5-6 in Skyline Conference play, look to make it four in a row and move to the .500 mark in league play Tuesday night (Jan. 31) when they host Old Westbury (10-8). Tip-off at the Sharp Center in Riverdale is set for 7 p.m.

Jamel Little of Spring Valley is third on the team in scoring for Old Westbury, averaging 15.5 points per game. The senior guard is also averaging 4.4 rebounds, and has 14 assists and nine steals.
