The majority of the local sports world is still enjoying a holiday hiatus, but while most teams continue to rest up for a long winter schedule the County Center hosted five games as the annual Slam Dunk challenge tipped off its first day. In boys basketball Croton-Harmon beat up on Yonkers, 53-24, while Albertus Magnus edged out White Plains 59-53 and Byram Hills survived Poughkeepsie 66-56.

On the girls side of things, Pearl River defeated Brewster, 63-39, behind a 19 point effort from senior Allison Cook to give Head Coach Lorraine Moylan her 500th career victory. Arlington also advanced as they beat Kennedy 55-42. The action will resume today at noon as five more games are scheduled to wrap up this portion of the tournament.
