Section 1 recently announced the playoff parings for the Class A, B and C girls lacrosse playoffs starting today. MSG Varsity has the current schedule.

Perennial powerhouse Lakeland/Panas enters the Class A tournament undefeated and in the top sport for the tournament.

At 12-3, Fox Lane is currently ranked third in MSG Varsity’s power rankings and the Foxes enter the Class B tournament as the top ranked team.

Nyack enters the Class C tournament a top the rankings and the Indians are currently ranked eighth in the MSG Varsity’s power rankings.

 

The Class C playoffs begin today with the outbracket games for the boys lacrosse teams in Section 1. The chase for the Class A and Class B Championships begin tomorrow. MSG Varsity has the complete schedule.

At 10-6 Lakeland/Panas enters the Class A Tournament as the top seed. MSG Varsity’s power rankings currently has the team ranked third in the region.

Yorktown’s lacrosse team takes their usual spot a top Class B and they will not be in action till the quarterfinals on Tuesday. MSG Varsity’s power rankings currently has the Huskers ranked first.

The Broncos of Bronxville enter the playoffs as the top seed in Class C. At 14-1 MSG Varsity has Bronxville ranked fourth in the power rankings, the Broncos are the only Class C team ranked.

College Sports News:

Dertinger Picks Up Hat Trick As Season Ends

Thomas Dertinger of Nanuet had a hat trick as the Dominican College men’s lacrosse team ended a disappointing season with a 24-6 loss at eighth-ranked Seton Hall University.

The Chargers closed with an overall record of 1-12, including 0-9 in the East Coast Conference.

Dertinger, a sophomore midfielder, led the team in scoring with 29 points on 23 goals and six assists, while senior midfielder Matthew Brown of Sparkill, a Tappan Zee HS alum, added two goals on the season.

 

Mortarboard musings

  • Westchester Community College golfer Anthony Siguil shot a two-day total of 166 as the Vikings placed fifth in the NJCAA Region XV championships at Phil J. Rotella Memorial Golf Course in Thiells. Siguil, a graduate of New Rochelle HS, was named to the all-Region team and earned an invited to compete in the National Championships at Chautauqua Country Club in Jamestown early next month. Westchester finished in fifth place, 32 strokes ahead of Ulster CC.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas College sophomore Mike Galonski of Newton, NJ, was awarded all-region honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:24.35 that ranks him fifth. The Spartans, coached by Lorne Marcus, ended the season ranked 10th in the East Region. With Galonski, George Erazo of North Babylon ranked seventh in the 400 meters with a school-record time of 48.05. Mike Abelard of Spring Valley, a Ramapo HS graduate, also was ranked seventh in the region in the 100 with a time of 10.91. Joe Chegwidden of Hamburg, NJ, was ranked sixth in the region in the Steeplechase wit ha time of 9:35.34.
  • Manhattan College men’s lacrosse coach Tim McEntee will not return for the 2013 season, director of athletics Bob Byrnes announced. McIntee led the program for 15 seasons compiling an 89-136 overall record with 59 wins coming against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents. Manhattan won its only MAAC Championship under McIntee in 2002, posting a 9-0 record in the league that season. Manhattan finished the 2012 campaign at 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the MAAC.
  • Junior Delaney Childers of Johnston, OH, a left-handed pitcher on the Dominican College softball team, earned all-America honorable mention status as announced by Daktronics. Childers, who went 24-8, was voted the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year, leading the CACC with a 1.08 ERA and 10 shutouts.
