Boulders Stop Newark Bears, 5-0

starter pitched seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball while the Boulders offensive scored five runs off of Newark starter Julian Sampson in a 5-0 win Tuesday at Provident Bank Park in Pomona.

After a scoreless first inning, the Boulders found the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the second. With two-outs Billy Alvino hit an infield single that scored and made the tally 1-0 Rockland.

The Boulders would add their second run in the third when Phillip Cuadrado doubled to knock in Keith Brachold.  The double was Cuadrado’s 10th of the year and extended the third baseman’s RBI total to 35.

Another Boulder continued his hot streak in the bottom of the fifth when Keith Brachold hit his league leading 23rd homerun of the season and extended the Rockland lead to 4-0. The two-run blast was Brachold’s 3rd homerun in the past four days. 

The rest of the evening belonged to Chacin who pitched a masterful seven innings of two-hit ball for the win.  The lefty is now 2-1 with the Boulders with an ERA of 3.99.

Rockland added an insurance run in the seventh when Mollica singled to bring in Cuadrado to make the final 5-0.

The Boulders and Bears face off for a matinee today starting at 11:30 a.m.
