Shame On You

Woman caught dumping the contents of her car onto the street and then driving away.

While, on occasion, security cameras catch the stuff of , other times they simply pick up people being scummy. Today I'm not breaking any big news; rather, just outing someone who has no respect for the appearance of our town. A plain-and-simple litterbug.

This video was captured on Monday evening in front of my house. The scene opens with a litter-free street. By the time the woman in the video has finished cleaning out her car, there's a decent pile of garbage left in front of my house. For the record, the garbage included a couple of water bottles (befitting the exercise gear she's wearing), a few plastic bags and two empty beer cans (not so befitting to the exercise outfit).

I certainly seem to wind up with an awful lot of empty beer cans/bottles in front of my house! I’ve sadly come to expect it late at night when the clubs spew their revelers out, but do we now have to deal with the fallout from people driving around our streets drinking beer in their cars?

OK, perspective. Dumping refuse on the side of the street might not be a huge deal when you consider all the other issues facing our town. But it truly does detract from all of our lifestyles. If we can’t even keep up our attempts to keep the property in front of our houses looking good, why should anyone else feel like they need to make an effort?

The point of this rant is to simply inspire people to do their part to help make Port Chester a better place.  It's not all about big change.  Everybody being mindful and simply displaying common decency will help to elevate our beloved town into a better place.

" Dumping refuse on the side of the street might not be a huge deal when you consider all the other issues facing our town." Sean, it's a plenty big deal. That is YOUR home ... and that is an in-your-face slap at you and all of us. This village abides low-lifes.

No way ... you're assuming a base integrity that does not exist in people we suffer.

Aidan, I certainly don't disagree with you. I'd just prefer to see the bigger issues (overcrowded housing, drunk people passing out in my yard) dealt with before we devote resources to refuse dumpers. This is of course strictly my list of priorities. If I do happen to see her again, I will most certainly say something to her. I'd just rather see our town get the more important ducks in a row so to speak before we make chasing people like this down a priority.

Sean's video indeed caught the attention of Port Chester police on Monday, and was also mentioned at Monday night's Port Chester village Board of Trustee's meeting.

this should start in school, let them pay a good fine for littering.
