Living near a Port Chester Nightclub - Part 2

What it's like to live next to a busy nightclub in downtown Port Chester

I haven't written a follow up to my previous post for several reasons.  The main reason had been that things had seemed to have improved!  The music, while still loud at times, has been more tolerable for the most part.  My property had been left untouched from what I could tell.  And apart from a few small encourters with people being exceptionally loud in front of my house in the early hours of the morning, I had no real problems to contend with.

Regardless, I installed some video cameras around my house about 3 weeks ago.  I watched the complete overnight footage a couple of times out of curiosity.  Apart from seeing a few people urinate in the street, there wasn't a whole lot to see.  Between the cameras and my fairly new locked gates at the front of my house, I was definitely feeling better about things.  That lasted until Sunday morning.

At around 10:15 AM, my wife decided she would go out into our backyard to do some gardening.  She walked through our bsaement to the door that leads to our backyard.  As she went to turn the knob, someone on the outside opened the screen door and tried to get in!  My wife, terified, ran upstairs and called to me as loudly as she could.

I immediately grabbed my phone and dialed 911 as I ran out the front door of my house.  I first checked the gates on either side of my house.  Both were still locked.  So this person had obviously jumped one of them to gain entrance to my yard.  Oddly, his shoes and numerous items from his pockets were strewn about my little 2' by 6' patch of front yard.  As I walked to my driveway, he started to walk towards me.  I told him to stay where he was until the police arived.  Luckily, he did not put up a fight.

The police came and got him out of my property.  We all noticied he reaked of alcohol.  They asked him the usual questions (i.e. "What's your name?", "Where do you live?", etc.).  He had no ID on him.  To my surprise, I heard the office tell him to be careful walking home.  I immediately interupted and asked if that was it, they were just going to let him go?  At this point I was informed I had a right to press charges if I want.  Heck yes!  I most certainly wanted to press charges!  He broke into my property and scared the living daylights out of my wife.  He was not going to just walk away from this.  Plus, I wanted to send a message to the patrons of my local establishments that I will not tolerate this sort of thing.

Needless to say, after the police left. I started to review all of the footage my cameras had recorded from the previous night.  By the time I was done, I felt bad for the guy almost more than anything else!  You see, as much as he broke the law, he was also a very unfortunate victim.

In watching the footage, he approached my house around 2:30 in the morning.  That was as far as he could go.  He laid down and passed out in my front yard.  He lay there undisturbed until about 3:00 AM.  At this time a group of 4-5 individuals approched him (see video 3 AM) and searched him head to toe.  They took his wallet, emptied his pockets and took off his shoes (I guess looking to see if any money was hidden in them).  Then they stand around and laugh about it while sitting on my neighbors steps.

Fast forward to 4 AM (see the next video), the victim has stumbled out towards the street and passed out again.  We now see a couple of girls get out of a car.  While one is busy relieving herself in the street, the other one manhandles him into the sidewalk.  Shortly after she is joined by a man, and they proceed to rob the guy again.  If you watch the video through, you'll see dozen's of people exiting the bars and just walking past him, laughing at him, or searching him themselves.

In the final video, you'll see the driver of a van (loaded with girls brought up from the Bronx) litteraly pick him up and put him back in my front yard.  I guess this could be considered carring, but thanks fpr putting a stranger back on my property.

While I haven't posted all of the video, trust that this poor man was molested and/or robbed 5 times int hte 2 hours between when he passed out and when eveyone else had gone home.  He proceed to lay there on the side of the road until almost 6 AM.  This is when he finally came too and decided jumping my gate to sleep in my back yard was preferable.  I simply don't understand how, 1/4 of a mile from the police station, over a period of almost 4 hours, this guy stayed there on the side of Main Street without a single police car driving by and noticing him.

All in all, I don't regret having him arrested, but I do feel bad for the guy.  I don't think he was trying to break in, I think he was trying to get some help.  But, it's his fault for drinking uncontrollably.  It's the bar's fault for continuing to serve him until he reached that state.  And it's the police's fault for not patrolling this portion of Main Street for almost 4 hours when there have been many reports of problems there.  I seriously hope this raises some eyebrows.  I managed to capture all this within 3 weeks of putting up these cameras.  This bar has been there for years.  I hardly believe I got lucky with my timing.  Time will tell, but I'm certain I will record more instances if nothing is done.

First off, did you give a copy of this to the police? Your cameras show some pretty good facial shots. Second, I guess the police were busy that night, because from what I saw, not one police car went past there. You had one car double parked (which happens all the time on Main St) for quite a while.
Sean A. McNerney May 22, 2012 at 07:36 pm
The police were the first to get this footage. That was the main reason I started going through it. I assumed I would get all the details on why this guy broke into my yard. I was simply stunned by all the other things I saw.
Jim Byrne May 22, 2012 at 08:25 pm
Good god, it's like the Wild West downtown.
Sean A. McNerney May 22, 2012 at 08:29 pm
It's really just despicable. Imagine finding out this was all going on right underneath your own windows?
Interested Reader May 23, 2012 at 02:01 am
I am sorry you have to live near this and hope changes in public safety are in our immediate future but I would think your decision to release this video to the media has put the police in a less than advantages position in their efforts to solve this crime. The bars have been on the main street for decades, I'm sure one would expect some activity, not this but some, near a home situated so close to several bars.
Sean A. McNerney May 23, 2012 at 02:05 am
The first thing I did was tell the chief I was releasing the video and he had no issue with me doing so.
Interested Reader May 23, 2012 at 02:08 am
Any suggestions out there as to what be can done?
Racman63 May 23, 2012 at 01:29 pm
I want to applaud you for taking bold steps in taking back the village from the scum who infest it. P.C. has always had a reputation for its seedy underground and nightlife, but as someone who was born and raised in the Village, I've always had another vision for the village. That downtown has so much potential. Potential even beyond the good things that are happening at the Mill Street intersection of Main. Maybe, just maybe, this is the beginning of a gentrification that will force the exploitive landlords to think twcie about overcrowding their apartments, give pause to the petty criminals who routinely pass through the Village like highwaymen of old and give the Board of Trustees something to consider other than fighting no-win, expensive legal battles against the Federal Government!
PC Lover May 23, 2012 at 01:32 pm
Curfews appear to be in order and actively seeking and fining the bars that over serve as a start. Clearly the police need to step up their presence. These videos will do nothing to enhance the publics' perception of Port Chester. Perhaps Mayor Pilla and the Police Chief should stroll Main Street some summer night at 3 AM to get a dose of reality. At least then they may be able to better schedule and focus our limited resources.
Jim Byrne May 23, 2012 at 02:46 pm
I also want to applaud you for taking a stand, and I agree with the person who said PC has great potential. My wife and I bought our first home together off of King Street in August, and we could not be happier. We really love PC and all that offers, but the rampant crime that I read about on here -- including gun shots and pedophilia -- makes me wonder if the Village can ever take the next step.
Port Chester is diverse, full of hard-working people and their families, and that makes it very special in my eyes. But there are those who are taking advantage of this special place, and preventing it from reaching its potential. It seems the problem is treatable; I just don't understand why more action is not taken. Get to the core of the problem, root it out, and PC will really take off.
PC is my home May 23, 2012 at 08:34 pm
Wanted to congratulate you on exposing this !
JJ May 24, 2012 at 02:03 am
Another "wake up call" for PC.
Is anyone from local government watching this? WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED????? Good job making this public.............
niecey May 31, 2012 at 01:01 am
I like PC but wtf! These people drink a little to much and don't know what they are doing. I lived in the south bronx years ago and I never saw something like this. (Now its a little different) but You were able to walk the streets and if you were in trouble people would help not ROB you. What a bunch of low lifes. Maybe there should be a curfew. Maybe bars should close by 12. I am just discusted. Port Chester cops not looking so good!!! Everyone will have to put cameras outside their house just to see the crap that goes on.
Vegas June 3, 2012 at 09:07 pm
Shame on you for putting your family in harms way. Time to move away from these savages. Next time your wife may not be as lucky.
Sean A. McNerney June 3, 2012 at 09:11 pm
Or, maybe we can all just push to make ALL of Port Chester a better place. I refuse to let outsiders drive me from my home. My wife and I agreed to buy this home together. Neither one of us is interested in leaving.
George Datino June 3, 2012 at 09:25 pm
Good for you Sean. Don't let anyone push you from your home. Can't let them win. If the current administration does not solve the problem, sooner or later an administration that can solve the problem will. People are fed up and angry. A little revolution is good every once in a while.
Sean A. McNerney June 3, 2012 at 09:28 pm
Thanks George! I'm really hoping for a good turnout at tomorrow nights board meeting. Voices on a blog are one thing, we need live voices in front of the board to really start making a difference here.
John Taggart June 3, 2012 at 09:45 pm
Stand your ground Mr. McNerney, you retreat they advance. My wife and I bought a house on a beutiful dead end by the water, not in PC, on the Hudson. The landlord next door rented a 2 bedroom to a gang of 13. It took a long time but we won. Form a neighborhood watch give the police and mayor hell, and consider filing civil suits. That landlord is paying for his neglegence and the neighborhood is beautiful again.
Tony June 16, 2012 at 11:16 pm
As I live in Poor Chester my whole life there are some nice guys with a heart like you who just called the police, me I would have broke his face with a bat, ya see how it is Port Chester police saying be safe going home, thats the reason why people do what they do cause the cops dont do shit, you own a home on dirty azz main street where there has been gun shots fights and murder along with drug deals and so on and istead of shutting these piece of shit clubs down no one does anything, you pay taxes have to cut your lawn and pay for other services and its ok for this to go on, I would send your video in to the city or state and prove there is nothing happining, I know all the cops and all the owners of these prostitution clubs and have been in trouble before so yes i can say what im saying, but THINK about what you said you live there and things are getting better yet your wife could have been rapped and this man has been robbed by several people by LOW LIFE LOOSERS yeah growing up there for 35 years....Yeah Port Chester is Discusting ......Ant Vita
Tony June 16, 2012 at 11:18 pm
Oh and you put Vidoe Cameras in your house ....So answer your own question How is it like living in Main St in Poor Chester yeah POOR CHESTER
Aidan June 16, 2012 at 11:26 pm
"People are fed up and angry. A little revolution is good every once in a while." You are so right, George. I think it's time for new village leaders ... clean house. It all stinks.

Ginger, Moe and Frankie. I am privilaged to honor you and Gabby with this funraiser. I would alsoRead More like to thank my family who drive 370 miles to help me and show their love for you. So many volunteers that help. Thank you Tina, Ray and Melissa for holding down the tshirt and bookbag table. Thank you to mom and dad for holding down the refreshment table and to Julie, Carley and Jason for working the raffle table. Also to Gabby for the wonderful tattoos and for Missy for teaching our children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. I would also like to thank Al for bringing the firetruck and all the enjoyment it brought the little ones. Now to all that came and donated, I thank you. Without you all there would be no "WALK". Love you all, Peace and Love, Laurie.
Laurie MacAllister June 18, 2013 at 09:23 pm
One more person, my husband Rusty, you are my glue that holds me together. Thank you for putting upRead More with me through all my craziness. Love you.
Laurie MacAllister June 18, 2013 at 09:28 pm
Sorry Pete from Memorable Moments. You know how much you are appreciated for the wonderful picturesRead More that you took the day of the "walk" words cannot describe how I appreciate you donating your time. Thank you.
PC Lover June 15, 2013 at 09:04 am
Cathy, Westmed should refer to you as "Valued Customer". No person can serve two masters.Read More Every Doctor must ask themself, "Am I serving my patients or am I serving the insurance companies? Because those two are in direct financial conflict with each other. Seven minute maximum "face time" sort of answers that question, doesn't it? Today, medicine is a business...once you accept that fact you will begin to have the proper mind set to better navigate the system as a customer, not as a patient. There are exceptions.
PC Lover June 15, 2013 at 09:06 am
Craig, I may be wrong but I doubt the average doctor at Westmed is making that much money. Do youRead More have a reference for that estimate or just wishful thinking?
PC Lover June 15, 2013 at 09:13 am
Cathy..I agree wholeheartedly. Charging for parking is the epitome of arrogance. As the insuranceRead More companies squeeze Westmed they are trying to pass their overhead onto us, when what they should be doing is dropping the underpaying plans and letting the world know which insurance companies they can no longer accept due to the insurance company's corporate greed. Maybe then the reimbursement will improve. I hope they choke on it.
Craig Noor June 14, 2013 at 05:31 pm
The new picture is decent ... only about 15 percent Byram.
Silvio V. Buccieri June 14, 2013 at 06:29 pm
IF you like roof tops, then this is picture you should keep posted.
FJT June 17, 2013 at 08:43 am
The photo I was referring to was the one that showed the Byram River not the one that's up thereRead More now. The village's own website has some nice photos of Port Chester. Maybe the Patch could ask to borrow one of those, or take their own photo using the same vantage point.
Craig Noor June 13, 2013 at 05:33 pm
ps oh yeah, it's stand by, not standby
Craig Noor June 14, 2013 at 07:40 am
Not surprisingly, the Greenwich patch photo is of a dumpster and the rye patch photo is ofRead More people's,owing crack. Or not pathetic!
Aidan June 14, 2013 at 11:32 am
Keep at it, Katie. It's a small potatoes thing. You'll get it straight, I'm sure. Thanks for theRead More energy.
Sandra Casey June 11, 2013 at 12:37 pm
This photo is still not appropriate. Sorry, but it is more of Byram than of Port Chester. PleaseRead More choose a photo in Port Chester.
Craig Noor June 11, 2013 at 05:36 pm
Yep the left half is Byram ... As I mentioned, if you stood in Byram you could take a picture thatRead More was all Port Chester ...
Bea Conetta June 12, 2013 at 10:07 am
This picture is truly ridiculous, because it is not Port Chester. It is a photo of Byram and aRead More parking lot. As for Patch's new format, I dislike it intensely. Go back to the old format that was more interesting and not so dull. It was good to see the comments of residents and be able to give your own opinion. It wasn't broken, so why change it? I am still waiting to get some help on how to get to my past comments. Can anyone help me with that problem that arose with the new format?
niecey June 10, 2013 at 08:02 am
I agree. It is awful. Go back to old design. I hardly go to the website anymore
Gus garcia June 11, 2013 at 10:26 am

This reminds me what " COCA-COLA" DID DECADES AGO! . THEY CAME OUT WITH A DIFFERENT"Read More COKE" NEW! IMPROVED! ETC.ETC. FORMULA. PEOPLE HATED IT THE FIRST DAY IT WENT TO THE SHELVES! LATER ON THEY WENT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL !!! ..... IF IT AINT BROKEN!....
Aidan June 14, 2013 at 11:53 am
Yeah. It's lousy. Admit it and fix it.
Liz Giegerich (Editor) June 6, 2013 at 03:30 pm
Hi Silvio, Thanks for offering. We have a photo to be used. Just waiting for it to be changed by ourRead More tech team. Thank you.
Liz Giegerich (Editor) June 6, 2013 at 03:18 pm
HI everyone, I do not have the ability to change it myself right now. Patch is aware of the repeatedRead More requests for it to be changed. A new photograph will be put in place as soon as possible. Again, sorry for the delay and for the initial mistake that led to this photo being used. The photo that is supposed to be there is the one used on our facebook page right now.

I sent my comment on the new pic to that email too and suggest others do too so it can be replacedRead More with a good picture
Silvio V. Buccieri June 6, 2013 at 12:35 pm
what a great comment, this is Port Chester!! what do you expect from this village when you rideRead More around the and you can see all the TV dishes on the building......... and the landlords get fat...
Linda Turturino June 6, 2013 at 02:08 pm
we as a community need to rally and support the efforts to right all the long past due wrongs thisRead More is a terrible situation and I for one will not rest until it is fixed and I will not take responsibility for wrongs made before my Grand Birth

Sadly, comments that were posted here by Craig Noor and FJT have been removed -- along with anotherRead More commenter's invitation to share more about the issue at hand. I am so sorry about this. We will have it changed as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

I believe the Port Chester High School is the most beautiful High School in Westchester and all ofRead More the surrounding states. Its architecture is incomparable. It should be representative of the village and its residents. Also you might consider the Veterans Monument on Westchester Ave or Lyons Park with the flowers in bloom. All historical and representative of the beauty of the village. Any one of these sites would make a beautiflul
Anne Latella June 8, 2013 at 11:28 am
Patch Picture & represent the village in a magnificent manner.
Craig Noor June 4, 2013 at 07:16 pm
And while I'm on the subject of ugly this redesign is still hideous. Nice inscrutable icon next toRead More my post - it adds nothing, but meanwhile you have removed the preview of people's comments that used to come up when you clicked on their name. And this light gray type is awful. And it doesn't make the ads more visible if that is what you were thinking
Craig Noor June 4, 2013 at 07:17 pm
Wow, hit a paragraph return and it posts your comment prematurely. Are two-paragraph comments tooRead More much sophistication for your audience, advertisers, or editors?
Anna June 4, 2013 at 09:05 pm
I personally like this image of Main Street...although I would agree it is a sloppy photograph andRead More is not framed well. Why pretend that Port Chester is something that it isn't? It's not Rye. And I don't know why you'd rather have an image of generic sailboats as a backdrop.
