Trike-A-Thon to Support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

St. Paul’s Child Care Center in Rye Brook hosts seventh fundraiser for efforts to fight illnesses affecting children.

St. Paul’s Child Care Center in Rye Brook is set to join thousands of pre-schools, daycare centers and other groups across the country in sponsoring a St. Jude Trike-A-Thon event on March 28 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s leading pediatric cancer research centers.

The week-long event teaches bike and riding-toy safety lessons using interactive stories featuring characters, Bikewell Bear and Pedals the Bunny. At the end of St. Jude Trike-A-Thon week, students bring their tricycles to school to practice their newly learned safety lessons.

In addition to safety lessons, kids learn about helping others including the patients of St. Jude. Families, friends and the community team up to support the hospital by pledging a donation for St. Jude Trike-A-Thon Week. Because no patient is ever denied treatment from St. Jude because of an inability to pay, funds from public fundraisers such as the St. Paul’s Child Care Center St. Jude Trike-A-Thon help the hospital’s mission of finding cures and saving children.

This is the seventh year that St. Paul’s Child Care Center has held the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon program. St. Paul’s Child Care Center has raised more than $6,860 since it began in 2006.

“We challenge family and supporters of St. Paul’s Child Care Center to join us in helping to teach our kids about riding safety while raising funds for St. Jude,” said Donna Scullion, event coordinator. “I’m proud our kids are able to help give hope to thousands of children battling cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude.”

Joining young children across the United States in the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon program is cable network Nick Jr. and character favorite, Dora the Explorer. A supporter of St. Jude since 2007, Nick Jr. airs PSAs featuring Dora inviting children to participate in the program. The Dora PSAs can also be viewed by visiting www.stjude.nickjr.com

Btw, I tried for twenty minutes to post this as a new thread ... I finally gave up because pageRead More after page did zero ... just spun me nowhere. A waste.

If Patch was meant to be both a community news source and a site for community opinions, well, theRead More new format has undermined both of those intentions. The site is unfriendly for even casual perusing and even more user-unfriendly for any sort of dialogue between readers and those who wish to make comments. It might have been a well-intentioned make-over, but it's diminished user traffic and turned folks off. Local issues used to be aired here ... and then debated and commented on by the folks most impacted by those issues. That's all been sabotaged by the new format. Better to admit your error or face the reality of less user traffic and probably less ad revenue as well.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
