School District Jettisons Academic Calendars to Cut Costs

Parents can download and print this year's school calendar from the district website.

To save printing and postage costs, Port Chester's school district won't be mailing academic calendars to families this year.

That fact came up during a planning board meeting Monday night, when one resident seemed incredulous that the district would need to take that kind of cost-cutting measure.

The man was the last of several speakers who told officials they don't want a new condominium development in town because it'll mean more kids in a school district they say is "bursting at the seams."

"You people pass this, this here, and I guarantee all of you's won't be up there," the man warned planning commissioners.

Despite his incredulity, it's true – but families can still access the school calendar online, and they can print it out.

Here's the text of a press release from the school district, including instructions on how to locate and print this year's school calendar from the district website:

This year, for the first time, the full Port Chester school calendar is available only on the district and school web sites.  To save money, the district did not print and mail school calendars.

For those families who prefer to have a paper calendar, the month-by-month calendar can be printed directly from either the district web site or each school's web site.   Here's how:

Within the "important Dates" box on the right of the computer screen click on "View Monthly Calendar."   When the calendar opens, it can be printed by clicking on the printer icon (picture)  on the top right of the calendar.

The calendar on the district web site includes events from all schools.  The calendar on each school's web site contains district-wide holidays and meetings, and events for that school only.
