Port Chester Teacher Receives Leadership Award

teacher Jeanine Zaccara has been awarded the 2012 "Champions of Character" Teacher Leadership Award by the Academy of Character Education at the Sage Colleges.

A gala reception for honorees was held on April 3 in Troy, NY, at which character education leadership throughout New York State was celebrated.

Zaccara, a teacher at Edison Elementary School, was honored for her work in creating and implementing the One World Clubs in the Port Chester elementary schools. The One World Club is an after-school program to teach character education with a global focus, encouraging students to become citizens of the world.

The One World Club has grown into a national and international endeavor, helping children acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills they will need to succeed in our increasingly interdependent world, including a perspective on good citizenship. 

Activities at Port Chester’s Clubs help students understand climate change, the environment, energy scarcity, world hunger and the need for peace and security in the world.
