Ann Rose Santoro, a teacher at Port Chester’s John F. Kennedy Magnet School, has been selected to attend the Second Annual Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching/Teachers Conference in San Diego.
Santoro is one of only seven educators from New York invited to the conference at the end of February. Representatives from all 50 states will be in attendance.
“Ms. Santoro is now part of a diverse group of educators from around the country who is at the table creating lesson plans that will be used as part of our elementary math instruction,” says JFK Principal Louis Cuglietto. “That she was further recommended to be a part of the prestigious group of New York State educators attending the Gates Foundation conference is a testimony to her abilities and further recognition of Port Chester’s growing leadership around the state.”
The Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching/Teachers Conference is sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which also pays for the travel, hotel and meal expenses of all participants.
Santoro is one of the educators in the Port Chester school district who has been working with Southern Westchester BOCES as Common Core Ambassadors to the New York State Education Department. She also works with Common Core Inc., a group that creates the Math Modules for the new scope and sequence recommended by the state.
