Port Chester Schools to Open on Monday with 2-Hour Delay

Port Chester schools are ready to get back to the business of education after being closed for a week because of Hurricane Sandy.

Schools Superintendent Edward Kliszus says utilities have been restored and the schools are ready to reopen on Monday. However, there will be a two-hour delay for the start of classes on Monday.

On Tuesday, the superintendent’s conference day is cancelled. A regular school day session for students and staff will be held in its place, Kliszus said. The delayed opening is designed to assist those that do not yet have power and to assist with any transportation issues.

Kliszus said the decision to open the schools on Monday came after Port Chester officials  reported that all downed power lines have been cordoned off with barricades. Kliszus said parents are reminded that they need to review safety rules with their children to make sure they avoid barricades, cordoned-off areas, fallen trees, and any other possible hazards.

The hurricane knocked out power to most of Port Chester as well of many other Con Ed customers throughout Westchester County.
