Port Chester Schools Honor AP Scholars

Teachers, staff members also honored for their efforts.

The Port Chester Board of Education took time out during Monday evening to recognize some of the outstanding work done by their teachers and students in the 2011-2012 school year.

Certificates were handed out to honor student academic achievements. Members of the staff were also honored.

“These students have really taken us up on our challenge to strive high,” said Port Chester High School Principal Mitchell Combs. “'Strive High’ is the motto of the high school and it’s something that drives our work on a daily basis. I want to thank the Board very much for taking the time to recognize these very deserving folks.”

Nine students were honored as AP Scholars who scored three or higher on three or more exams.

  • Caitlyn Celestino (U.S. History, World History and Chemistry)
  • Anne Marie Esposito (U.S. History, World History and Chemistry)
  • Jillian Ferretti (U.S. History, World History and Chemistry)
  • Eduardo Gonzalez  (U.S. History, World History and Chemistry)
  • Jason Ippolito (U.S. History, World History and Chemistry)
  • Anika Krause (U.S. History, World History and Chemistry)
  • Jenny Maldonado (Italian Language & Culture, U.S. History and World History)
  • Lukas Patrizio (U.S. History, World History and Chemistry)
  • Astrid Vargas-Hernandez (U.S. History, Chemistry and Spanish Language)

Three students were honored as AP Scholars who scored three or higher on at least five exams with an average score of 3.5

The Board also presented teachers and guidance counselors with awards for their efforts in helping the students achieve their goals.

“The students are the ones that achieved these wonderful grades and we are really proud of these students,” said School Board President James Dreves. “We expanded this and gave the awards to the teachers, guidance counselors and the principal because it doesn’t happen without all of those components coming together. It takes students that are willing to learn, teachers who know how to teach, guidance counselors to guide the students into the right AP course settings and the overall leadership of the principal.”
