Port Chester School District Wins Westchester Healthy Hands Award

Effort designed to help fight illness.

The Port Chester School District was recognized by the Westchester County Health Department for using its Healthy Hands Program in its classrooms during National Public Health Week.

The district was one of seven schools/districts cited by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, who said, “Sometimes the simplest things in life are the most effective.  This is true of hand washing.  That’s why I’m glad to see that schools are using our fun and interactive Healthy Hands program to teach students the importance of washing their hands and how to do it correctly.”

The county Health Department offered schools free GlitterBug Hand Washing Kits.  After a short lesson in hand washing, students applied the GlitterBug Potion to their hands, then washed as usual.  They were amazed to see the potion left on their hands light up under ultraviolet light, identifying the spots they skipped and all the “germs” they missed.
