Port Chester H.S. Marching Band Gets Lessons from College Band

UMASS Minutemen visit Port Chester on the way to a college competition.

Members of the Port Chester High School Marching Band will be getting some tutoring today from a big-time college band.

The UMASS Minutemen band will be rehearsing on the PCHS field from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday. They are traveling from a Saturday afternoon football game in Massachusetts to a collegiate marching band festival in Allentown, PA, on Sunday, and stayed overnight Saturday in the PCHS gym.

This morning, they will practice on the field as well as tutor the members of the PCHS marching band.

If you miss the UMASS Minutemen on Sunday, you'll see them again in November 2013. Under the direction of Director, Timothy Todd Anderson and Associate Director, Thomas P. Hannum, the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band will be traveling to New York City to march in next year's Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The UMASS band has more then 350 members.

My wife is an alum of the Minutemen & I'm an alum of the PCHS marching band. Thanks P.C. patch for this unexpected piece of good news this morning. Packed the kids up and rushed over this morning for a great time, saw some old friends and made some new ones. I've always maintained that the two things to be most proud of in Port Chester, consistently proud of, is the Volunteer FIre Dept. and the High School Marching Band. (BTW, it doesn't magically get that good. P.C. schools have a great music program and a team of dedicated professionals who make it happen, year in and year out)
