Marching Band Ends Season With Standing Ovations

The band played the Battle Hymn of the Republic during a rousing, Civil War-themed finale at the USSBA National Championship in Allentown, PA.

The Port Chester High School Marching Band ended its season on a literal high note, drawing standing ovations from a national championship crowd en route to some of its highest technical scores ever.

The band traveled to Allentown, PA, on Sunday for the USSBA National Championship, a day after competing in Bridgeport, CT.

Competing against larger band programs, Port Chester placed fourth, with a slim margin separating them from the champions. The band's Color Guard was named the best for the entire competition group, according to Ken Kraut, the music department's chairman.

Although the competition season is over for the band, there's a lot of work to be done. One of the most important off-the-field tasks for band members is fund-raising. It's critical for the band, which accumulates expenses each season traveling to distant competitions and shows.

Community members, business owners, proud parents and friends can help the band raise money by placing a message in the band's Ad Journal. The fund-raising drive for the Ad Journal has been extended to Dec. 1.
