James Carriere: Why I Want to Be Elected to the Port Chester School Board

Port Chester resident in two-way race for a seat on the Board of Eduction.

To the Editor:

My name is James Carriere and I am running for Port Chester School Board. I am a lifelong Port Chester resident whose family has been in the village for over 100 years.

I have been employed by my family's business for over 25 years. I am a 1987 graduate of Port Chester High School, parishioner of Holy Rosary Church, and chairman of the 1972 committee. I live in the highest enrollment district in the village.

My wife Patrizia and I currently send our two daughters to Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School where I am class parent, a member of the PTO and active in school activities. The tuition for a registered parishioner for two children is $7,035 per year. If my two children attended public school it would cost the tax payers $38,000 or $19,000 per child.

If elected, I will work diligently for the taxpayers of the Village of Port Chester. My goal is to bring the school board and village board closer together in a combined effort to make developers understand our village does not need dense housing but much more multiple use development. This will bring in tax revenue without adding additional children to our already overcrowded classrooms.

I pledge to work with Tom Corbia as a responsible fiscal budget conservative in hopes of persuading the remaining members of the Board of Education to embrace this philosophy.

I grew up and was educated in this great village. This is where I am raising my family. I am proud to call Port Chester home.
