Internet Safety Event Is Tonight at PCMS

Keep better tabs on what your children are doing on the internet.

While parents grew up in the days of Commodore 64s and Atari, today's students are net natives.

They were born in the era of networking and online connectivity, and can't imagine a world without social networking, high bandwidth and instant communication. Parents can't program a VCR, the joke used to go, without the help of their kids.

But even that's outdated: Who uses a VCR anymore?

The essence of the joke is still relevant. Chances are, kids are more than a step ahead of their parents when it comes to mastery of the internet and digital tech.

So how do you keep tabs on what they're doing online, and more importantly, how do you keep them safe?

That's the focus of "Internet Safety Night" tonight at Port Chester Middle School's auditorium. The free event will place emphasis on education and communication between parents and children.

Isabel Burk, safety coordinator of Southern Westchester BOCES, will be the presenter.

Tonight's program is slated for 7 p.m. in the PCMS auditorium.
