District: Klizsus Will Earn $217k Annually

Port Chester's new school superintendent will earn $23,000 less annually than his predecessors.

New schools Superintendent Edward Kliszus will earn less than his two recent predecessors and has declined benefits, according to the Port Chester School District.

Kliszus was hired Wednesday night after a 3-2 vote by the district's Board of Education. He's Port Chester's third superintendent this year after long-time administrator Donald Carlisle departed in late January and interim Superintendent Thomas C. Elliott wrapped up his six-month contract earlier this month.

Kliszus earned the votes last night after an initial field of 26 candidates was slimmed down to three finalists. Over the past several weeks, Kliszus emerged as the frontrunner after one candidate dropped out and internal favorite Frank Fanelli told his staff he would not get the promotion.
