2 Port Chester H.S. Juniors Win Carver Center Grants

Award helps pay for pre-college expenses.

Jason Ippolito and Astrid Vargas, both Port Chester High School juniors, have been each been named by the to receive a to help them prepare for college.

A Kelley Grant is valued at $2,500 and is designed to help juniors with expenses associated with college — exam preparation courses, college visits, application fees, pre-college or other expenses. To be eligible, students must have a GPA of 80 percent or better, and be actively involved in one or more extracurricular activities or sports at school, and either active in community service or hold a part-time job.

Astrid plays Varsity softball and is an honor student who speaks three languages.  Her goal is to be the first in her family to attend a prestigious college or university.

She is known for her unparalleled work ethic coupled with a heart of gold. Astrid will be spending her summer in France with the Experiment in International Living. 

Jason is a scholar and an athlete. He has been involved in a variety of sports at Port Chester High School including wrestling, baseball and football.

He is closely involved with the annual "," where he helps raise money for a yearly scholarship and for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Jason is interested in pursuing a career in computers and will be attending a pre-college program this summer at Columbia University where he will be taking "Introduction to Programming in C."
