12 Port Chester H.S. Students Named AP Scholars

Two graduates from the and seven current 12th grade students have been named as AP Scholars in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams through June 2012, according to the Port Chester school district.

Port Chester High School principal said that to earn this distinction, each student received grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. These students are:

Jillian Ferretti

Eduardo Gonzalez

Jason Ippolito

Anika Krause

Nicolle Mendoza

Lukas Patrizio

Lisseth Torres

Astrid Vargas-Hernandez

In addition, three members of the  were named AP Scholar with Distinction, receiving an averagescore of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.  

They are:

Christian Mora

Artur Szerejko.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the 1.7 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently higher level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

Port Chester High School offers 11 Advanced Placement courses to juniors and seniors. 

AP exams are developed by the College Board, using a committee of college and AP teachers, and are aligned with the same high standards expected by college faculty. Research shows that AP students who score a 3 or higher on AP Exams (based on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest) typically experience greater academic success in college and higher graduation rates than students who do not participate in AP.
