Truth, Dare, Consequences Promise or Repeat

In the very first episode of NEIGHBORS I tell a story about two men arguing on a corner. One man tells the other to wait right here (the corner) he’ll be back with a gun to shoot him. Well the man on the corner waited and waited. The other man came back with the gun and shot the man waiting on the corner. The man who got shot clearly looked shocked that he’d been shot, and clutching his chest he is alleged to have said, “Man you shot me”, before falling over dead. Now instinctively our bodies will either fight or take flight, or fight until it can take flight. Nothing told the man waiting on the corner to run while he had the chance and nothing told the man who went home to get the gun to stay home.

In the show I tell this story to point out how bad choices and actions can turn into severe life or death consequences. That’s why I promote learning and engaging in Chess to train the brain to over ride, Truth, Dare, Consequences, Promise or repeat mind games and allow the body to run like the wind to safety. The dead man who waited on the corner to get shot stood his ground and now he’s underground. The man who shot him is in jail – a lose, lose situation.

I’d be remissed if I didn’t mention anything about the Zimmermann trial being I’m an African American and all, so here it is. I’ve met tons of overzealous security and parking personal of all races in stores and other area, most of my life. In stores they follow me around waiting for me to steal something, while ignoring the little old lady standing right next to me whose stuffing store merchandise   into her huge shopping bag. I’ve seen out of control security guards push and punch people who they feel are law breakers, hence the names Rent-a-cop or Barney Fife. Or, the mean parking attendant who yells, “You can’t park there. Move it before I give you a ticket”, no matter what you’re trying to say. I was taught since a young child that when I’m confronted by overzealous security and parking personal to keep my mouth shut and to get away as fast as possible. Then report the problem to an adult, store management or the police.

I’m glad I listened to the warnings cause now in days instead of just pushing and shoving most guards are armed and trained to shoot to kill and apparently getting away with it. Today’s children are in danger on every front and it seems that parents aren’t  reinforcing the warnings of “Stranger Dangers”  which doesn’t just apply to child abductions, but any interactions with most strangers. Chess is a good way of teaching your children that everyone isn’t their friend. That most strangers are like the person who sits on the other side of the Chessboard - looking out for their own King (self).

The Pawn moves first, baby you got it, one square straight forward you know you got it. It captures by moving diagonally. Just protect the King. Just protect the King (Lyrics from the Chess Song.).
