[VIDEO] Prom Limo Checkpoint Set Up

The annual effort to curb teenage drinking took place as 2,300 young people made their way to their high-school proms.

Area young people on the way to their high-school proms were slightly delayed Thursday because of Operation Safe Prom.

One New Rochelle checkpoint was on Davenport Avenue, which leads to , , and the . Other checkpoints were at Glen Island Park, Mamaroneck Beach and Lake Isle in Eastchester.

About 2,300 high schoolers from around the region were expected to attend proms Thursday. Checkpoints would be manned both on arrival and departure.

Prom-night inspections of limos, buses and private vehicles were conducted by county and local police. The inspection was coordinated by the county's Office of Drug Prevention and STOP-DWI, the Department of Public Safety and the Taxi and Limousine Commission.
