Trustees to Meet Tonight: FD Budget Review, Affordable Housing Talk

Port Chester's trustees are expected to review the fire department's budget and discuss affordable housing in nearby Rye Brook when they meet tonight.

When Port Chester's Board of Trustees delivered on a promised tax cut this year, fire Chief Kevin McFadden said he was "uncomfortable" with some cuts.

For the Port Chester Fire Department, the biggest reduction was in money allott for overtime. With $75,000 less for OT, and smaller cuts to training and firehouse maintenance money, in pledging to make every effort to stay within budget.

Today, trustees will follow up with a budget review session focused on the fire department.

Also on tonight's agenda: Trustees are expected to discuss neighboring Rye Brook's plans for affordable housing, and how those plans could impact Port Chester. Rye Brook leaders have called for a public hearing on a proposal to change the village's code, specifically sections dealing with zoning, land subdivisions and the existing approval process for projects.

In a "discussion paper" published earlier this year, Rye Brook leaders proposed more than a dozen potential sites for affordable housing projects in Rye Brook, and several of them are within District 4, an area of Rye Brook where children are sent to Port Chester schools.
