Special Holiday Lottery Leads to $25K Prize

Store that had $500K winner in July sells latest big winner.

The New York Lottery says David Dubie of New Rochelle won $25,000 on the Lottery's Holiday Doubler scratch-off game.

Dubie's winning ticket was purchased at the Shoretown Stationery at 434 Pelham Rd. in New Rochelle. That store also sold a Pick 10 ticket worth $500,000 in a July drawing. The winner, announced in September, was Vincent Tardibono of New Rochelle.

Lottery prizes up to $600 may be cashed at any of the Lottery's 17,000 licensed retailers statewide. Lottery prizes valued at $601 to $999,999 may be claimed at any of the Lottery's stand-alone Customer Service Centers located in Buffalo; Rochester; Syracuse; Schenectady; Fishkill; Manhattan; and Garden City, and within any of the Lottery's video gaming facilities including Resorts World New York Casino at Aqueduct; Saratoga Casino & Raceway; Monticello Casino & Raceway; Tioga Downs Casino; Batavia Downs Casino; Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway; Hamburg Casino at the Fairgrounds; Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack; and Vernon Downs Casino & Hotel. Prizes of $1,000,000 or more must be claimed at one of the Lottery's stand-alone offices listed above.

The New York Lottery continues to be North America's largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing close to $2.9 billion in fiscal year 2011-2012 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery's aid represents nearly 15 percent of total state education funding to local school districts.

Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district's size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
