Shred Your Old Files for Free in Port Chester

Don't ask why Westchester County provides a mobile shredding service, just take advantage of it.

Why does Westchester County have a mobile shredder? It's probably better not to ask too many questions and just take advantage of it – the "county shredder" is a relic of 2006, a happier economic time when politicians were still spending money like teenagers with mom and dad's credit card.

The county shredder will be here in Port Chester on June 11, in the municipal lot at 10 Pearl St., across from Village Hall. Residents can drop by from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to shred junk mail, old credit card applications and anything else with sensitive information.

Been sitting on your old mail for years? No worries – you can shred up to four boxes of paper, according to the county.

County officials only ask one thing in return: come prepared, and remove all paper clips, fasteners, folders and hardcovers – basically anything that can't be shredded – ahead of time so queues don't form. Happy shredding!
