Should Port Chester Leaders Hire a Building Inspector Without Ties to the Village?

Local leaders say hiring a building inspector has become priority number one.

After Port Chester's building inspector resigned last week, the village is once again looking to fill the demanding, highly-visible position.

As efforts continue to clean up decades of alleged corruption, some local leaders say they'd prefer a candidate without ties to Port Chester, and elected officials are nearly unanimous in the opinion that the county's civil service list doesn't offer candidates with the experience necessary to handle the unique challenges in the village.

Still others say Port Chester can look beyond candidates on the civil service list, but doing so might require creative work-arounds.
