Port Chester Board of Trustees Trims Village Spending Plan
Among changes were decreases for the mayor, elections, fire department, parks.
The Port Chester Board of Trustees on Monday night approved a $32.6 million budget for 2012-2013 that included a series of last-minute cuts to keep down taxes.
In discussions on Monday, the board took on 21 decreases in spending, elections, the fire and parks departments. However, adjustments were made to make increases for the Justice Court, finance, police and the village's contingency fund.
“The challenge to maintain an aggressive repayment of debt while at the same time reducing the taxes has been difficult this year,” said Mayor Dennis Pilla. “I think the budget is aggressive but realistic. The ebbs and flows we are going to see in different departments will be manageable because of the professional staff we have and because of the amount of contingency that we provided for in the budget.”
