Choral festival at Port Chester Middle School postponed, recycling schedule changed.

With a winter storm headed our way, Port Chester officials say they have been preparing for the wet weather, which is expected to bring three to six inches of snow, rain and strong winds and possible icy conditions overnight into Thursday.

Because of the impending storm, Port Chester schools have postponed the district choral festival that was set for Wednesday evening at Port Chester Middle School. The festival has been rescheduled for Monday, March 11.

- Thursday garbage pickup was performed Wednesday.

- There will be no recycling pick up in Port Chester on Thursday.

- DPW crews prepared for salting, plowing as needed.

- Port Chester is not brining local roads due to the predicted rains that could come with the storm. As a result of recent heavy snows, Port Chester has been working with the Village of Rye Brook to use a liquid salt solution to brine key roads as a way of removing snow. Port Chester is looking into obtaining its own equipment so DPW workers can pre-treat key roads and problem hills.

The National Weather Service said this coastal storm might bring strong winds along the coast; minor to moderate coastal flooding across Long Island Sound, harbor, and the inland bays; high surf and beach erosion across Atlantic Ocean shores, and heavy wet snow mainly across southern Connecticut and Long Island from late Wednesday through Thursday, possibly lasting into Friday.

Heavier precipitation is trending south and east of Westchester County. A prolonged period of light to moderate snowfall is expected late Wednesday in to Wednesday Night with periods of snow throughout Thursday and Friday.  Large accumulations are not expected.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted.
