[UPDATED] Port Chester Election Coverage 2012

Your hub for live updates on polls, election results and more.

UPDATE (MIDNIGHT WEDNESDAY): As the nation returned President Obama to office for a second term in Tuesday's election, voters in Port Chester helped return several local leaders to key posts.

U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, was easily re-elected, turning away a challegne from Rye's Republican town supervisor, Joseph Carvin.

Democratic Assemblyman George Latimer defeated Republican Bob Cohen in a fairly close race for state Senate. Democrat Steve Otis also is the victor over Republican William Villanova.

In the race for U.S. Senate, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand handily beat Republican challenger Wendy Long on Tuesday, winning her first full, six-year term since being appointed by former Gov. David Paterson in 2009, CNN, NBC, CBS and the New York Times are reporting.

Although some Port Chester residents remained without power because of Hurricane Sandy, village officials said they did not hear of any problems with voting through the day. All of Port Chester's polling places had power on Tuesday.

Hi, Thank you both for the feedback. Aiden, were you trying to post as a board message? There mightRead More have been some kind of technical glitch that our IT team is working out. In regards to your other comments, I urge you to give it a little time to get used to. The little bell at the top right of the page has a red circle with a number in it to tell you that someone has commented or interacted with something you have done so you should be able to go there and see exactly what is going on in the places where you posted. I hope this helps!

I agree with Aidan. I would check the Patch once a day for the articles, but several times to seeRead More how a discussion progressed. With the new format, that method is virtually impossible.

Btw, I tried for twenty minutes to post this as a new thread ... I finally gave up because pageRead More after page did zero ... just spun me nowhere. A waste.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.
Aidan May 15, 2013 at 07:09 pm
Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
