Port Chester Board of Trustees Looks at Plans for former United Hospital Site

Fate of property key election topic.

The Port Chester village Board of Trustees is scheduled to discuss the future of the former United Hospital property in a workshop session this evening.

The fate of the closed hospital continues to be one of the hottest topics in Port Chester, where opinions vary widely on what should become of the former medical facility just off Boston Post Road. The property's fate is also a leading issues among candidates in the upcoming March 19 Port Chester village elections, in which the mayor and all six trustee seats are up for election.

Today's workshop session of the Board of Trustees is set for 5:30 p.m. at Port Chester Village Court. Another workshop is set for 6:15 p.m. on the village's proposed waterfront district update. The board has its regular session at 7 p.m. tonight following the workshops.

Starwood Capitol has proposed redeveloping the former United Hospital site into a complex with more than 800 residential units. Village residents over the past year have voiced concern to village officials that the proposal would bring too many people to the site, and could especially become a burden on the Port Chester school system.
