New Port Chester Trustee Quits Waterfront Commission

Gene Ceccarelli sees conflict in serving on both Board of Trustees and commission.

As Gene Ceccarelli gets ready to be sworn in as a new member of the Port Chester village Board of Trustees, he has resigned from the village's Waterfront Commission.

In a March 26 letter to the current Board of Trustees, Ceccarelli said he is resigning from the Waterfront Commission because of the "incompatibility of serving concurrently on both the Board and Commission."

Ceccarelli, who served on the Waterfront Commission as it developed a new guide to improving the village's waterfront along the Byram River, was elected to the Board of Trustees in the March 19 Port Chester election. Ceccarelli ran as an independent candidate and was one of two new members elected to trustee seats. In the election, Democratic Mayor Dennis Pilla was defeated by Republican Neil Pagano, with former trustee Greg Adams getting back on the board.

Tonight, the current board has its final meeting at 7 p.m. at the Village Court. The new board, with Pagano as mayor, is set to be sworn in at a 6 p.m. ceremony on Tuesday in the Village Court, with the board's reorganization meeting set for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
