Money and Politics: Forum Looks at Impact of Cash on Local Campaigns

Forum sponsored by Rye, Rye Brook, Port Chester League of Women Voters.

A forum hosted by the is set to examing the impact of money on the political process and election campaigns.

The forum is set for Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Rye Middle School's multi-purpose room, 3 Parsons St., Rye.

Members of the panel for the discussion include:

- Jeffrey Binder – An attorney, lobbyist and political consultant.  He is a political strategist and advisor to numerous elected officials, candidates and political organizations.

George Latimer – Elected in November as New York State S\senator, representing the 37th District.  He previously served as S\state Assemblyman in the 91stAssembly District representing the Sound Shore communities.

Laurence Laufer – An attorney and former general counsel to New York City’s Campaign Finance Board.  He advises political candidates, PACs and officials on political activities including guidance on campaign finance. 

Bill O’Reilly – Republican political campaign media and communications strategist.  Bill was campaign spokesman for Bob Cohen’s State Senate campaign versus George Latimer.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
