Letter to the Editor: Port Chester Resident Supports Gelfarb and Astorino

County Executive Rob Astorino and Legislator David Gelfarb have fought to protect Westchester County taxpayers.  They have made the county government live within its means, like all of us are challenged to do.

Thankfully, Astorino and Gelfarb have opposed the Federal Government’s attempts to shred our local zoning laws. The Feds have made it public that they want Westchester County to dismantle local zoning laws.  The impact would be a complete change in the physical composition of our local communities.  If there were no local zoning laws it would not be possible to prevent a developer from putting multi-family housing in areas that were traditionally single family homes.

We in Port Chester have seen the Feds take over our local elections.  Now they want control of over our zoning too?

These bureaucrats have no place dictating what type of structures should be allowed in our communities.  It has always been and should always be a local decision. Astorino stated in a recent editorial, that the Feds appear to be equating discrimination with zoning.  Zoning simply restricts what types of structures can be built, not who lives in them.  A

storino and Gelfarb have made it clear that they will fight to prevent the Feds from reaching beyond the scope of the Settlement and imposing its will on our communities. We need to re-elect Astorino and Gelfarb on Tuesday, November 5 to ensure that the taxpayers in District 6 have a clear voice opposing the federal intrusion into our local zoning laws.
