FEMA Deadline Extended, White Plains Center Still Open

The latest deadline is now in late-January.

A spokesman for Westchester County sent the following information regarding FEMA availability in White Plains:

Residents and business owners who want to meet with FEMA representatives in person may continue to do so until Dec. 21 at the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Westchester County Center, 198 Central Avenue, White Plains. The center is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The deadline in 13 New York counties, including Westchester County, has been extended to Jan. 28, 2013.

The extension, agreed upon by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state, is for survivors living in disaster-designated individual assistance counties: Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester.

Assistance for individuals and families can include money for rental accommodations, essential home repairs, personal property losses and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

Individuals can register online at www.disasterassistance.gov or via smartphone or table at m.fema.gov.

Applicants may also call 1-800-621-3362 or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. If using 7-1-1 Relay or Video Relay Services, call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free numbers operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until further notice.
