Didden issues his first statement since Tuesday night's election.

After a contentious campaign, Bart Didden said Wednesday it's time to put the mayoral election behind and "work together to move our village forward with progress and a committment to a better future."

Didden, a Republican, will retain his seat on the Board of Trustees, where he and his allies have a majority vote over the three Democrats on the board.

"Let me reassure you that I will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of all the residents of Port Chester as your Trustee," Didden wrote in a brief statement sent Wednesday afternoon.
