Crawford Park Revenue Down in Part Due to Alcohol Fee

This is a summary of updates from the June 18 Town Board meeting that Rye Town volunteer media coordinator Dick Hubert has submitted to the media.

The Confidential Secretary To Rye Town Supervisor Bishop Nowotnik reported that rental revenues for Crawford Park are down in part due to the Town’s alcohol policy, which adds $360 to each event wherein a renter wants to serve alcohol.
Councilwoman Collins suggested that the entire Crawford Park policies be reviewed to see how revenue could be increased by better marketing of Crawford Park.

There was general consensus that the alcohol policy could not be reversed without opening the Town up to additional costs and liability issues. The Town Board adopted a policy for Crawford Park that provided for a safe and inviting park. Part of this was the alcohol policy that is similar to other facilities in our surrounding communities.

“Please remember that when the revenue is down we also have no need to hire part time per diem employees to service those events,” Deputy Supervisor Bill Villanova said. “In addition there was a Town Parks Employee dedicated to Crawford Park that is not here this year. This is another expense not realized this year.”
