Bridge Work: S. Main Street Lane Closures to Continue Through October

Metro North installing safety walkway on north side of New Haven Line bridge.

Lane Closures on South Main Street in Port Chester at Slater Street are expected to continue until the end of October as Metro North Commuter Railroad crews work on a New Haven Line bridge, according to the railroad.

Workers are installing a safety walkway on the Track 3 side — the north side — of the bridge, requiring construction vehicles to be in the roadway of South Main Street. The project began in August and is about 50 percent complete.

The $196,000 project has required one lane of traffic to be closed at a time. As workers build the walkway, Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officers have been assigned to traffic duty at the site.
