Board of Elections: Primary Count Could Extend to Next Week

Voters may have to wait until a re-canvass to find out who won the District 6 Democratic primary.

After vote-counting went late into the night and early morning Wednesday without a clear winner in District 6's Democratic primary, voters may have to wait another week for complete results.

The last vote tally showed Port Chester Trustee Daniel Brakewood holding on to his lead over Harrison's Mark Jaffe, with 35 of 39 districts reporting as of early Wednesday morning.

Both candidates said they remained confident, and Jaffe said he was counting on picking up votes in yet-to-be-counted Harrison districts.

The lack of tallies from the four remaining districts could be attributed to problems with voting machines -- or poll workers simply went home without calling results in, the county Board of Elections said Wednesday.

Election officials weren't able to provide specifics on the District 6 primary, and said there may not be a clear winner until after re-canvassing and official results are released. That could be as late as next Thursday, Sept. 22.
